Carol Stack is the former director of admissions at Macalester College and Augsburg College, and served as a college counselor at both the International School of Brussels and St. John’s International School in Waterloo, Belgium. I did not really care for this book. The authors seem to think that if you do not have your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) in the bank ready to go that you have squandered your money and need to quit buying so many frivolous things. They then shame you and tell you to quit buying so much stuff and perhaps sell your car.

This book is truly helpful to any student and the parents alike. The complete explanations and the first-things-first within the first two chapters are commendable.Thanks to authors for sharing their vast experience.

If you never talked to anyone familiar with the process of college admission, including parents of older kids, and if you are really financially illiterate, you can benefit from this book. Otherwise, you will be given information that is obvious and easy to find out for free.

Great book. There is so much good information and content. However, the pages are falling out and is driving me nuts.

Terrific read and thorough approach to evaluating colleges from a financial standpoint. Most of the book's message is directed to the student, but as a professional in this space, it gave me a great perspective into some of the challenges some students face with a difficult divorced parent.Best part of the book is how to search for those schools where you particular student can maximize his or her aid, whether it be needs-based or merit-based aid.
